Spinach blueberry smoothie, with nothing to chop. Six ingredients go in the blender, you blitz, you drink. Five minutes, one cup to wash, no knife.
Easier still? Buy bagged baby spinach (most bags are pre-washed, check the label) and tip it straight in. It’s a low carb breakfast or snack for the days the stove is not happening and the spoon drawer is empty.
Can I manage this today?
- Spoon rating: 🥄 No-Spoons Day
- Hands-on time: about 5 minutes, nothing hands-off
- Main effort: measuring six ingredients into the blender
- Chopping: none
- Standing and attention: about 5 minutes at the bench. No stove, no heat, no watching a pan
- Washing up: one blender cup, a few measuring spoons and a glass
There’s only one way to make this, and it’s already the easy one.
Kerry’s notes
This is the smoothie I point people at when the day has already won. No knife, no stove, one cup to wash.
Keep the nut butter, spirulina and honey substitute together on one shelf. Spinach lives in the fridge. Pull the lot out, tip it in, done before you’ve had time to think about it.
Yes, the macros shift a bit with your brand of nut butter and coconut milk. Leigh will want to tell you exactly how much, and she’s written a whole guide on keto versus low carb, so I’ll put the kettle on while she does.
The honey substitute? She has views on that too. Her honey on keto guide has the full story.
One more thing. It doesn’t look too green, and the honey substitute lifts the sweetness. This one snuck past the Ninja test.
Why this recipe works
- Nut butter and coconut milk give it body, so it drinks like a smoothie and not green water.
- Blueberries and a teaspoon of honey substitute sweeten it. No sugar goes in.
- Nothing is cooked, so it’s still on the table when the stove is off limits.
- Six ingredients and five measures. There are no decisions halfway through.
Ingredients at a glance
- Blueberries: sweetness and the purple colour.
- Spinach: the green. Mild enough that it disappears.
- Nut butter: creaminess and body. Any kind you like.
- Keto honey substitute: a little sweetness without sugar.
- Spirulina: extra colour and an earthy note. Optional.
- Coconut milk: the liquid base.
No Spoon Swaps
Shortcuts are legitimate ingredients here. Our guide to convenience ingredients as accessibility tools says why.
- Bagged baby spinach: nothing to wash or chop. Check the bag says washed.
- Pre-stirred nut butter: no stirring the oil back in. Check the label, as some have extra ingredients.
- Carton coconut milk: pours straight from the pack, with no tin to open. Leigh has compared brands in Milk vs Mylk on Keto and Low Carb.
- Frozen blueberries: no washing, and nothing goes off in the fridge. Fresh works too.
Substitutions and allergens
- Nut butter: any you like, or a seed butter if you avoid nuts.
- Honey substitute: another sweetener you like, or leave it out.
- Coconut milk: another unsweetened milk.
Allergen notes
- Nuts: the nut butter. Check the label for cross-contamination.
- Coconut: it’s in the milk. Some people who avoid tree nuts avoid coconut too, so check what’s right for you.
- Gluten: none of the ingredients contain gluten as written. Labels vary by brand, so check the nut butter, spirulina and coconut milk.
- Xylitol: keto honey substitutes can contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs in any amount. Keep it out of reach, and ring a vet straight away if a dog has had some. It can also be laxative for some people.

- Reheating: not needed. It’s a cold drink.
